Associates

Partners in Prayer — Associates in Ministry and Development

FHM Associates are men and women, married, single or religious who affiliate themselves with the Franciscan Handmaids of the Most Pure Heart of Mary. They partner with the sisters in ministry, prayer and development.

Evangelical Counsel: Associates do not take vows. They promise fidelity to the Holy Mother Church.

Communal Life: Associates live in their own homes and in various States. They host annual meetings.

Age Requirement: None

Habit: Associates do not wear the Habit.

Membership: Membership is open to all races, languages and cultures.

Formation: Members attend social justice workshops, spiritual direction and participate in faith sharing in their various communities.

An initiation ceremony takes place yearly. An Associate Director is assigned from among FHM Sisters.

SPIRITUALITY/FORMATION

The Associates, like the Sisters, adopt the following:

OBJECTIVES:

To pray with the sisters and with each other for the spiritual and corporal well-being of God’s faithful.
To promote the mission of FHM Sisters with a combined Spirituality of Mary and Francis.
To participate according to their time and talent in the ministries of the Franciscan Handmaids of Mary FHM.
To Pray for and increast of vocation to the FHM community.
To minister wherever they are with a strong Catholic presence.
To promote the Catholic Social Justice Teaching.
To embark on fundrasing activities to support the ministries of the FHM community.

MISSION:

Associates are FHM partners in Prayer, Ministry and Development. They assist the sisters with vocation promotion and fundraising for their mission.

MINISTRIES:

FHM Associate in Florida

Associates are invited to embark on various ministries to the need of the region in which they live. They are to integrate spiritually, catechesis and projects on development in response to the needs of our time.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

Associates are encouraged to internalize the following:

Mission to the afflicted — Isaiah 61: 1-11; Luke 4: 16-18
The Beatitude — Matthew 5: 3-12
The Ten Commandments — Exodus 20: 1-17
The Peace Prayer — The Prayer of St. Francis
